liminal spaces remind me of how i dreamed as a child. i grew up as a baby with carpet floor and my dreams mirrored that. i remember dreaming in my childhood apartment that there was a small opening in my closet, i entered, and it went into this small carpet staircase and a room or two. sunlight poured warmly through the window(?) and the room was dusty, claustrophobic, and strange. the dream ended when someone was in the other room. i remember some sort of fear or dread feeling that presence.
another dream ive had as a child was a location that i came back to multiple times. it was this big corridor with white walls and carpet, and at the end of the corridor was a stained glass mural higher than anything. two paths diverged there. along the walls dozens of white doors. inside one of the doors was a closet, but im not sure what the others were.
i remember dreaming of unreachable dusty places that creeped me out. i had a dream where i peeked into a small vent and inside that vent was a whole other furnished room, completely untouched. it disturbed me because i didnt know how someone reached that place to furnish it.
this is a gmod rendition of Kane Pixels' Backrooms series. it covers most of every area shown.
i LOVE THIS MAP. I ADORE IT. i come back every now and then to run around and get scared. it is so well made with each of the physics props interactable and so many little secrets hidden around. the ambience is great and has put me on edge like 500 times even though i know theres no danger in the map at all. if you have garrys mod and can run it i cannot recommend it enough. go run around
it means so much to me to be able to expierience these spaces up close and personal. its like a dream come true but quite literally and more of a nightmare and I LOOOOOVEEE IT!!!!
the archetectual details in this map are beautiful. the way some hallways get smaller and smaller, the way that the lighting changes just slightly, the oddness of the mimicry, ugh. so yum. you can piece together even if you havent seen the series that this is where lost things end up. shoes, even a car, clothing, just abandoned stuff that used to mean something to someone. and now it lies here. in my eyes its like an afterlife for the non-living. you can also tell that this place is almost an organism. mimicking reality, copying and pasting and warping a room until it is nothing like it was before. just a copy. i love the idea that the only alive things here are these never-ending rooms and you. theres small storytelling in the bloodstains and marks that you only notice when you look close.
its so immersive and disturbing. like you know that this room, while large and open, is stuffy. you can feel and smell dust, but theres nothing around to even create dust. its anomalous and jarring.
this is literally what i meant in "my dreams" about a room that seems unreachable yet theres furniture inside. while the maps objects are stuff that teleports from the normal reality, i always like to imagine that the objects and rooms and furniture here are not manmade. it was grown here. it is the same substance as the floor and walls around you. CREEPY!!!

i think this argument is dumb as hell. just plain BICKERING AND BICKERING about what horror is right and whats not. like who friggin cares
HOWEVER.
THRER SHOULDNT BE A BIG CLEAR SCARY MONSTER IN THE BACKROOMS. the monetization of the horror definitely tainted it, and the more i write this the more i realize how it really does not matter, but so many people on twitter type posts just to type and it makes me MAD.

THE HORROR IS IN THE IF!!! it is not a FACT that there is something lurking. it is a big fat two letters IF. the horror is turning around a corner and possibly seeing something. you are Alone in this fictionality of a "backroom", theres no one with you, and it is just your mind and your insanity.
my temper does not reach that far. kane pixels is ok even for adding that weird scribble monster in his rendition. like who cares his series is still so freaking good. the entitys supposed to be like... mold or something LOL idk i havent even caught up with his series #oops
